Corbières wine is built on a backbone of Carignan, Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre and Syrah — rules require at least 40 per cent from these principal varieties, giving every bottle a clear Southern French identity. The sub-appellation Corbières-Boutenac AOC pushes that further, with Mourvèdre, Grenache Noir and Carignan together accounting for roughly seven-tenths of the final wine for a more structured expression. Altitude and cold northern winds preserve natural acidity, while white styles draw on varieties including Bourboulenc, Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne and Rolle. Corbières delivers dense, herby Southern French reds in volumes few neighbouring appellations can match — and that availability translates directly into easy buying. As the fourth largest AOC in France by area, covering over 10,600 ha and producing around 550,000 hl annually, Corbières is not a scarce specialist category. Nearly 90 per cent of that output is red wine, almost all built around Carignan and Grenache Noir, so the style is consistent and reliable.
