The Winery — Sattlerhof

The Sattler family have been tending vines in Gamlitz since 1887, and their organic, steeply terraced vineyards sit between 350 and 450 metres above sea level in Austria's Südsteiermark region. Today Alexander oversees viticulture while his brother Andreas directs winemaking, continuing their parents' legacy of precise, elegant whites. The 2024 growing season tested their discipline: heavy rain early on gave way to a long, benign summer that permitted harvest at perfect ripeness. Hand-picked fruit spent just 4–8 hours on skins before gentle pressing and cool spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel, then five months maturing on lees—that restraint and patience with minimal intervention gives this wine its poise.
