From the scorching heat of Andalucía, one of Spain's hottest wine regions, comes Sherry — a fortified wine built on grapes including Pedro Ximénez, the intensely sweet variety used for blending and beyond. This is a region that makes wines of genuine power and character, and there is far more range here than most shoppers expect.

Why choose Jerez & Sherry Region wine?

Sherry is seriously undervalued, which means you get extraordinary quality for the price — a harder argument to make for most Spanish neighbours. The spectrum runs from the searingly dry Fino and Manzanilla of DO Manzanilla – Sanlúcar de Barrameda to the rich, brooding Oloroso of DO Jerez-Xérès-Sherry, all matured in 600 L American oak butts. For collectors, the VOS and VORS classifications — introduced by the Consejo Regulador in 2000 — certify wines with average ages of 20 and 30 years respectively, rivalling aged Tawny Port at a fraction of the attention. The Consejo Regulador itself, Spain's first, registered in 1933, enforces strict EU name protection, so every bottle labelled Sherry is the genuine article. Pair a chilled Fino with jamón or anchovies, or bring an Oloroso to the table with aged hard cheese. With production falling steadily to 400,000 hl by 2021, serious bottles are becoming harder to find. If you want a fortified wine with unmatched stylistic range and real age credentials, our Jerez & Sherry Region selection starts here →

What is the difference between Fino and Oloroso Sherry?

Fino ages biologically under a layer of yeast called flor, keeping it pale and dry. Oloroso ages oxidatively without flor, producing a darker, richer, fuller-bodied wine.

What styles of Sherry are available beyond Fino and Oloroso?

All Sherry styles — Manzanilla, Amontillado, Pale Cream, Cream, and more — derive from those two base types, giving buyers a wide range from dry to sweet.

What is Palo Cortado?

Palo Cortado is a naturally occurring style sitting between Amontillado and Oloroso — it has the delicacy of the former and the richness of the latter, making it a distinctive choice for adventurous buyers.
