Wine Profile
White - Tropical and BalancedTuscany, Italy

In the Glass — Tasting Notes

A refreshing, mineral-edged white that catches delicate floral perfume and ripe stone fruit in perfect balance. Bracing acidity and saline minerality—the signature of Poggiotondo's high-shell-fossil vineyard sites—cut through summer eating without fuss. At 12.5% ABV and bone-dry, this is a food-first wine: no pretension, just drinkability that disappears too quickly at lunch.

The Winery — Poggiotondo

Founded in 1968 by Carlo Antonini on three hectares of vines, Poggiotondo is now a 50-hectare estate run by his son Alberto and daughter-in-law Alessandra. Alberto, a renowned consultant for award-winning producers worldwide, dedicates himself to authentic, pure expressions of indigenous Tuscan grapes. The estate earned organic certification in 2014 and employs concrete tanks and untoasted oak casks—equipment chosen to preserve fruit, vitality and texture rather than impose oak character. The 2025 Vermentino was hand-harvested as whole clusters, spent six days in cold maceration on gross lees before concrete-tank fermentation with a portion of whole bunches, then two months ageing on fine lees under temperature control. No malolactic fermentation keeps the wine's pristine acidity and brightness alive.

At Your Table — Food Pairing & Serving

This is a wine built for the table. Medium-bodied with persistent length, it pairs effortlessly with grilled sea bass, fried squid, shellfish, or creamy pasta—equally at home beside a simple salad dressed in good olive oil. The Vermentino & Rolle grape, when grown on sunny, exposed slopes like those near Vinci, naturally carries musky and floral aromatics alongside apricot and peach. Chill and serve now for weeknight dinners, Sunday lunch with friends, or summer aperitivo drinking. Explore more of our Tuscany selection and discover what else we've found across Italy.
