This wine announces itself the moment you pour: aromatic and perfumed, with floral lift and a whisper of sweet spice. Candied notes of Turkish delight and crystallised ginger are held in perfect tension by acidity that keeps the whole thing singing rather than cloying. A cold soak on the skins before pressing extracted subtle phenolics that add texture without heaviness. The split ferment—90% in stainless steel with selected yeasts, 10% wild in aged barrel—layered in additional depth, delivering a wine with real substance and a longer palate than you'd expect.

The Winery — Lani

Lani is the solo venture of winemaker Alana McGettigan, who has been crafting wine across Italy, France, and her native New Zealand since 2002. Inspired by the lively aromatic and food-friendly wines of Northern Italy and France, she was naturally drawn to Gewürztraminer. This 2022 comes from family-owned parcels where yields are deliberately kept low to chase flavour over volume. The vintage delivered a warm summer and cool late-season conditions—ideal for retaining the natural acids that give Gewürztraminer its signature grip. A fickle grape variety, it rewards the discipline and care Alana brings to every harvest.
