In the Glass — Tasting Notes

Dark plum and pomegranate skin tannins grip the palate with uncommon precision. The white Ararati component lifts the blend with brightness and mineral definition, preventing heaviness despite its full body. At 13.5% ABV, natural acidity and structure define a wine that rewards attention — the opposite of modern confection.

The Winery — Zorah

Zorik Gharibian returned to his native Armenia in 2006 to establish Zorah in the Yeghegnadzor Valley at 1,370 metres, near Mount Ararat and just kilometres from one of the world's oldest wineries. His ungrafted vines—phylloxera has never reached this remote region—grow on clay soils and are dry-farmed. The 2020 vintage benefited from cooler-than-typical conditions; hand-picked Sireni and Ararati fruit arrived in September with ideal phenolic maturity. Both varieties fermented together in buried earthenware amphoras for 60 days on skin, then spent a full year integrating in the same vessel—a patient approach that builds definition.

At Your Table — Food Pairing & Serving

Drink this wine with roasted lamb, grilled game birds, or rich braised meat dishes where its structure and dark-fruit character anchor the plate. The mineral grip and tannin backbone pair beautifully with stews, BBQ, roast dinners, and venison. Serve at 16–18°C, decanting 30 minutes beforehand. This is a wine for date nights and meaningful gifting—one worth cellaring for years to come.
