In the Glass — Tasting Notes
Pale gold and quietly intense, this Roussanne greets you with lemon peel and grapefruit aromas rising over a stone-like minerality that feels alive rather than austere. Real tension runs through the palate: the fruit stays bright and focused, with a subtle bitterness and saline thread beneath that gives genuine presence. This is Roussanne at its best—depth without austere weight, freshness without sacrifice.
The Winery — Château le Devay
Jean-Charles Fournet and winemaker Pierre-Jean Villa planted this 5.5-hectare estate in 2014, just north of Côte-Rôtie, on the advice of soil scientists and counsel from serious neighbours including Christine Vernay and Yves Gangloff. The vineyard's east-facing Roussanne vines root in mica schist between 340 and 400 metres altitude—precisely the soil that conveys depth and salinity. The 2023 vintage experienced warm, dry summer conditions and perfect harvest timing. Whole-bunch pressing and slow fermentation at cool temperatures in mostly older oak (just 10% new) preserved primary aromatics while building texture. Ten months in barrel before bottling in July 2024 reflects their philosophy: working naturally to speak clearly through the wine.
At Your Table — Food Pairing & Serving
Drink this with roasted poultry, smoked fish, hard cheese, risotto, or vegetable-forward plates. Its mineral structure and citrus brightness make it equally at home as an aperitivo or at the table. This is one of the finest examples of Grenache Blanc & Roussanne we've found, sitting alongside our broader Fruity & Aromatic White Wine selection and the wider range of France whites. Vegan-friendly. Serve cool, 8–10°C.
