In the Glass — Tasting Notes

Violet and crushed black pepper leap from the glass. Ripe blackberry and plum sit at the core, yet high altitude and cool nights in the Uco Valley slow ripening enough to preserve a fresh, saline snap and herbal lift that keeps the wine from ever feeling heavy. Refined tannins mean you can drink it now with real pleasure rather than waiting for it to soften.

The Winery — Kaiken

Kaiken, the Chilean producer's Argentinian venture, planted these vineyards between 2011 and 2016 in Los Chacayes Norte at 1,250 metres—the highest elevation in the region. The soil is old alluvial material with limestone rocks on top, contributing that mineral, saline length. Hand-harvested in late March 2021 (a vintage that gave Malbec exceptional quality across Argentina), the grapes were sorted by hand and subjected to a cool pre-fermentation soak before seven days of fermentation in concrete tanks. Twenty days of post-fermentation maceration followed, then twelve months in concrete, all of which built structure without heaviness.

At Your Table — Food Pairing & Serving

This is drinking wine for grilled beef, carne asada, and charred empanadas—occasions where you want freshness and pepper as much as you want weight. The wine pairs beautifully with BBQ & grilled dishes, stews & braises, beef & steak, lamb, and roast dinners. Perfect for weeknight meals and Sunday lunch gatherings alike. If you're exploring our Argentina collection or building your stock of Full Bodied Red Wine, this belongs on your list.
