In the Glass — Tasting Notes

Rich plum and black cherry aromas, then a palate that balances fruit ripeness with well-rounded, silky tannins. This is a wine built for the table rather than immediate drinking alone — the structure shows genuine ageing potential. At 14% and fully dry, it delivers grown-up drinking without excess.

The Winery — Azamor

A family-owned Alentejo estate purchased by Alison and Joaquim Luiz-Gomes in 1998, Azamor farms low-vigour hillside sites at 530 metres — unlike many producers in the region — which gives its wines more depth of flavour than the Alentejo's typically fruit-driven norm. The 2018 blend — 40% Syrah, 40% Touriga Franca, 20% Alicante Bouschet — mixes local and international varieties. Each variety was fermented separately in temperature-controlled stainless steel for up to ten days with indigenous yeasts, then matured in a combination of French and American oak barrels (15% each), the remainder kept in stainless steel. The 2018 vintage was a challenging one, with high August temperatures and reduced yields, yet the harvested fruit was of excellent quality — and it shows in the glass.

At Your Table — Food Pairing & Serving

This wine has the weight and composure to partner roasted lamb, slow-braised beef or game birds, making it perfect for serious Sunday roasts or weeknight suppers where you want real presence in the glass. If you've explored our selection of Syrah & Shiraz or our broader Alentejo range, this sits among the best modern examples of how Portugal's southern heartland pairs traditional varieties with thoughtful international technique. Serve at room temperature or slightly cool. Vegan and vegetarian friendly.
